Day trips

Comillas’ privileged location means visitors can take many attractive short trips to other towns in the region. A few kilometres away is the medieval village of Santillana del Mar, with its outstanding Romanesque monuments and the Altamira Prehistoric Museum. Meanwhile, on the coastal road you will find the town of Suances and the fishing village of San Vicente de la Barquera.

You can also head inland to the Saja Natural Reserve and its most interesting village, Bárcena Mayor. Then travel into the Nansa Valley to visit other beautiful spots, including the towns of Carmona, Tudanca and Cosio.

Another must is the Picos de Europa National Park. Travel through the dramatic gorge of La Hermida to reach the mountain peaks on the Fuente Dé cable car. Meanwhile, in the Valley of Liebana you will be able to contemplate the historic town of Potes, the Monastery of Santo Toribio and the Mozarabic church of Lebeña, among other architectural treasures.

Finally, what about heading to Santander, capital of the region? Or the magnificent Soplao Cave or Cabárceno Natural Park, also places of great interest to visitors.
